English Proficiency

TOEFL

English-language learners preparing for the TOEFL, including students applying to college and adult applicants.

The TOEFL measures academic English proficiency across Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing, and this course organizes lessons around each of those four skills so learners can focus where they need the most improvement. Lessons build vocabulary and comprehension strategies alongside the specific task types the exam uses, such as integrated writing tasks that combine a reading passage with a lecture. Because the Speaking section is often the most unfamiliar part of the exam for many learners, dedicated modules walk through how to organize a response within the allotted time. Practice, mock exams, and scheduled webinars are all included to support steady progress.

Course modules

Learners work through video lessons and written explanations organized by skill area, revisiting any module as often as needed. Where a learner's account is managed by a parent, the parent can review overall progress while the learner works through lessons independently.

1

Academic Reading Strategies

Identifying main ideas, supporting details, and author purpose in academic passages.

2

Listening Comprehension

Following academic lectures and conversations to identify key information and structure.

3

Independent Speaking Tasks

Organizing a clear, well-supported spoken response on a familiar topic within a short time limit.

4

Integrated Speaking Tasks

Combining information from a reading passage and a lecture or conversation into a spoken response.

5

Independent Writing

Structuring a written essay that states and supports a clear position.

6

Integrated Writing

Summarizing and connecting information from a reading passage and a lecture in written form.

7

Academic Vocabulary and Grammar

Building the vocabulary range and grammatical accuracy expected across all four sections.

Practice format

Practice sets are organized by skill area, so a learner can focus on integrated writing tasks, listening comprehension, or any other area separately, with an explanation available for each item after it has been attempted.

Mock exam format

Full-length mock exams are structured to reflect the general format and pacing of the TOEFL, covering Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing so learners can practice managing time across a complete test.

Webinar format

Scheduled live webinars led by a TOEFL Instructor walk through commonly misunderstood task types, such as integrated writing or independent speaking responses, with time set aside for questions.

Written questions

Learners who want help outside of a webinar can submit a written question through the platform at any time. Responses come back through private platform messages, so getting help never requires appearing on camera or joining a live session.
